![]() The Top 10 Reasons We Moved our Icon Design Work to Figmaġ. On top of that, Figma’s built-in tools feel almost custom-built for icon creation.įor these reasons, and those listed below, we’ve decided to make the complete transition to using Figma for our icon creation at Font Awesome. The ah-ha moment came when I realized we could keep icons completely editable while still exporting simple, usable SVGs. Figma’s interface is both intuitive and powerful, and its focus on collaboration has made working on a fully remote design team a non-issue.Īfter talking in-depth with some amazing and talented icon designers who extolled Figma’s virtues, I spent time putting Figma to the test and began weighing its pros and cons regarding icon design. The design direction of our new version 6 site was created and iterated in Figma, and we even built a simple icon component that has made integrating icons a breeze.Īnd as we spent more and more of our time designing in Figma, I started wondering if we could move all of our design work into the program, icons included. We were drawn in by its ease of use and its collaborative features. The design team here at Font Awesome started using Figma a couple of years ago to create visual assets and design mockups and prototypes. To help streamline our process, we recently switched to Figma to design and manage our icons and wanted to share ten reasons why.įinding the Right Design Software For Our Needs ![]() With these Gremlin-esque changes, managing our design workflow and asset library has become more cumbersome, while the tools we’ve traditionally used to create icons haven’t kept pace. Still, somehow the icon count at Font Awesome continues multiplying with new styles and categories. So basically, scale everything down to 16 pixel height (while letting widths resize automatically) and then scale just the frames up to 20 x 20 pixels (or 24 x 24 pixels, if you want a bit more padding). We’ve tried keeping them out of sunlight, never giving them water or feeding them after midnight. That’ll ensure the icon glyphs remain the same, but the frames will be consistent. Then, if you need the icons to have a consistent “square” frame, I’d use the Frame Resizer plugin to change the height and width to something like 20 pixels. ![]() They’ll be either 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, or 20 pixels wide.Īnd that’s why I recommend scaling the height of the icons first, so that all icons retain their original dimensions. So the first step in the process I mentioned (scaling heights to 16px) will result in the following: Scaling those down to 16px gives you the original height they were designed at. Now, when building a typeface, it’s better to have larger source files for vector precisions, which is why the SVGs we provide all are 512px high. So the exclamation point icon would be less wide than the truck icon, similar to how an i is less wide than an W in standard typefaces. ![]() Because it started life as a typeface (and ONLY a typeface), the decision was made to have the viewbox widths of each icon match the width of the glyph itself. So, yes, this is not nearly as straightforward as I would like, and has a bit to do with how Font Awesome came to life originally. These items and collectibles such as relics and documents can be revealed to players using Survival Instinct, a vision mode which highlights items of interest. The game has semi-open hubs for players to explore. ![]() Lara Croft explores one of the game's challenge tombs, which contains an ice ship. Lara learns new languages, enabling her to discover relics (such as coins) which can be traded for new equipment. Survivor covers a wide range of skills such as creating incendiary bombs and setting booby traps. Hunter gives her an advantage when dealing with the environments and animals. Brawler enhances Lara's efficiency with weapons, giving her abilities such as retrieving arrows from corpses and a steady aim, as well as boosting her resilience against attack and unlocks new combat skills, such as dodge kill. When players collect sufficient XP they level up, receiving a skill point, which can be spent on the game's three skill trees: Brawler, Hunter and Survivor. Completing objectives and side content and eliminating enemies give players experience points (XP). She can also use her ice axe and combat knife to engage in melee combat with enemies. Lara can use the environment to fight enemies, shooting explosive barrels, tearing down rope-wrapped structures with rope arrows, or ambushing enemies from high ground. Players may also utilize stealth to progress through portions of the game, using bows and arrows to take out enemies, creating distractions to draw enemy attention away from Lara, or hiding in bushes to evade enemies. Combat is a major gameplay mechanic Lara has a large variety of weapons at her disposal (including assault rifles, shotguns, and pistols), some of which have an alternate firing mode. Rise of the Tomb Raider is a third-person action-adventure game in which players control Lara Croft, who is on a quest to discover the legendary city of Kitezh. A sequel, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, was released in September 2018. It had sold 11.8 million units by November 2021. Rise of the Tomb Raider received acclaim from critics, who praised its graphics, gameplay, characterization, and abundance of content, but some felt that the game did not take enough risks. A Windows version was released in January 2016, and a PlayStation 4 version in October. It was released for Xbox 360 and Xbox One in November 2015. The game was revealed to be a timed exclusive for Xbox 360 and Xbox One at Gamescom the same year, which sparked criticism from the gaming press and community. ![]() Rise of the Tomb Raider was announced at E3 2014 by Microsoft Studios. The team traveled to several locations in Turkey, including Cappadocia, Istanbul and Ephesus, to design Kitezh. Player feedback was considered during development, with the team reducing the number of quick time events and introducing more puzzles and challenge tombs. In these hubs she can raid challenge tombs to unlock new rewards, complete side missions, and scavenge for resources which can be used to craft useful materials.ĭevelopment of Rise of the Tomb Raider closely followed the conclusion of development of the 2013 reboot. Lara must traverse the environment and combat enemies with firearms and stealth as she explores semi- open hubs. Its story follows Lara Croft as she ventures into Siberia in search of the legendary city of Kitezh while battling the paramilitary organization Trinity, which intends to uncover the city's promise of immortality. The game is the eleventh main entry in the Tomb Raider series, the sequel to the 2013's Tomb Raider, and is the second instalment in the Survivor trilogy. The drop-in, modular unit comes with a set pull weight of 3.5 pounds. ATC AR Goldįor a time, the AR Gold proved to set the gold standard in competition shooting, and it’s still among the best triggers in the game. You only need one punch for a drop-in trigger. The punches remove the hammer and trigger pins and are used as slave pins when installing a mil-spec-style aftermarket trigger. A bench vise and a lower receiver vise block will make it much easier to work on the lower and keeps it oriented in the correct position for the installation. You will also need two 1/8-inch punches and a nylon/brass hammer. Whatever type of trigger you decide on, remember to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and wear eye protection. Just place the unit in the lower and replace the hammer and trigger pins. Drop-in triggers package the trigger group in one cassette-style piece so there is no fussing with springs. The simplest and easiest route is a one-piece, drop-in trigger unit. These triggers take a bit more gun gunsmithing skill to install, especially when it comes to getting the springs properly oriented. Some mil-spec-style aftermarket triggers may have retainer pins. Many Mil-spec, component triggers are made up of six parts (not including the hammer and trigger pins): the trigger, trigger spring, hammer, hammer spring, disconnector and disconnector spring. There are basically two types of aftermarket triggers: component and modular, drop-in triggers. Replacing an AR trigger is really pretty simple-even a ham-handed gunsmith like me can swap out a trigger quickly. Sure, you might think you are honing the right surfaces, but you will more than likely create an unsafe trigger. A small hammer will reduce the trigger’s pull weight, but it can also cause light primer strikes, meaning it won’t ignite some types of ammunition with military-grade primers.Īnd don’t think you can use a Dremel on your existing trigger to fine-tune it. Every trigger will exhibit slight variations in pull weight from shot to shot-some will vary by 8 ounces or more, while others won’t vary more than an ounce. “Pull weight” is the amount of pressure needed to break the trigger. “Creep” is the distance the trigger travels before it “breaks,” or trips the sear and fires the gun. So let’s define a few keywords when it comes to triggers. The more consistent the trigger, the better you will be at manipulating it. A crisp trigger that breaks cleanly will benefit every shooter-those shooting out to long distances as well as those running and gunning during a competition’s challenging course of fire. While safety is a good thing, mil-spec triggers can be heavy and mushy, which isn’t conducive to accurate shooting. AR triggers were originally designed for military weapons with the primary concern being safety. I might be out of touch a bit, but I wonder what the new trend part is today. If there is one enhancement you can install in your AR that will have an immediate and positive result on its accuracy, it is a replacement trigger. Years ago you saw everyone and their grandmother posting pix of AR with KNS pins on this site and M4 forum. Had the AR9 for over 20yrs and the pin holes are fine. Left it in for 2 year then got a Geissele trigger and used normal pins. 2nd thought that came to mind was “how the hell am I going to take this off in the field if I don’t have the allen key”. Oh, you need to use 2 allen keys or the pins would just rotate while you tighten. There was like a 1mm gap if I pushed one side of the pins flushed against the receiver. Then they looked UGLY AS Hell and they were wider then the receiver. If you have fat fingers good luck messing with the tiny Allen screws. Fiddled with it to get the grooves in the pins lined up to get the dog bone thingy on, then put the allen screws on with locktite. Put the KNS pins in and the first thing the came to mind was “this shit is complicated”. Now I’ve never had a pin walk or break on me prior in all my years of shooting and thousands upon thousands of rounds that I’ve now lost count. A few years ago I put one in my AR 9mm because I heard AR 9 were harsh on trigger pins. |
